Vedic Math (VM) is the Buzz word that is also known as Speed Math or Mental Math. It can provide any student the foundation in Mathematics. Vedic Math consists of 16 Sanskrit Sutras (aphorism or formulae) contained in Atharva – veda (one of the four great Vedas of Indian spiritual literature). It is believed to be 5,000 year old Math, but is much faster than modern math.
VM is a wonderful way to develop our brain power. According to neurologists (brain specialists), only the left half of our brain is activated and developed by the present modern day education in Mathematics. The right half of the human brain, which works with pattern recognition and logical ability unfortunately remains undeveloped.
In VM, the very first step is to recognize the pattern of the problem and determine the fastest methods so that the holistic development of the human brain automatically takes place. In a nutshell it has been said that VM provides the cosmic software for the cosmic computer (human brain), so that the latter is fully utilized.
Listed below are the 16 Sanskrit Sutras (aphorism or formulae). Please note that throughout the course abbreviations are used for: Left Hand Side (LHS) and Right Hand Side (RHS).
