Most likely, this is what came to mind of the few spectators walking along the harbor of Penzance, England on the 8th of October 1977. Twenty-four 6.5 meter sailing boats were ready to sail single-handed to Antigua via the Canary Islands.
The longest solo Transat sailed on the smallest high sea racing sailboat was born with this regatta in 1977. Many people predicted a disaster but every two years, more and more sailors are attracted by the challenge.
