Ponds and streams perform several roles, including providing surface water and sediment storage, flood control, groundwater connections, animal habitat, and the cycling of nutrients and the dissipation of
energy contained in moving water. They can also be a source of drinking water and a venue for recreation.
Ponds, lakes, and streams have the ability to process the nutrients and other natural chemicals. A healthy body of water must maintain a balance between the amount
of nutrients that it receives and the amount it converts or stores.
In these investigations, we will examine nutrient enrichment, sediment movement, edge integrity, and habitat complexity.
