Collaborate with SEED Schools—Activity Sheet

Imagine using the Internet to collaborate on the water project with other schools in a worldwide comparative study. Once you have made contact with students on the Internet, how will you compare and contrast your findings?

You will need an e-mail address to participate in the SEED Water Project. If you do not have an e-mail address, you can sign up for an e-mail address using Hotmail, Yahoo! Mail, or any Web-mail service.

To begin collaboration, log on to the SEED bulletin board and sign up for a new account. Where possible, use the SEED bulletin board to communicate with your collaborative partners. Check the bulletin board regularly for updates.

Water Source
Contrast the water sources and highlight the similarities or differences. What do you notice about your water sources that is unique? How can you explain the differences?

Water Quality
Send the school you are collaborating with your data and ask for the results of their water quality tests. What do you notice when you compare the results? Also discuss what living organisms were found in the water.

Water and Culture
Where does water come from in other parts of the world? How do other cultures use water? What special role does water play in other people's lives? Don't forget to tell them about you, your school, and your community.

Storytellers
Share research findings and offer tips for planning the project. Share stories from the performance and, if possible, e-mail photographs or a short video. Ask questions about how to improve the project, talk about what surprised you about your findings, and offer advice. Get feedback on your draft project reports. Remember to record all communication in the project report.
