The Great Pyramids at Giza in Egypt were built nearly 5,000 years ago as tombs for the Pharaohs. They are VERY BIG. The largest is Kheops, which is 146 m (160 yd) high and has a square base that is 230 m (252 yd) on each side. Khephren is 143 m (156 yd) high with a square base, 215 m (235 yd) on a side. The smallest is Mykerinos, which is 66 m (67 yd) high and has a base, 108 m (118 yd) on each side.
Legend has it that when Napoleon visited them, he calculated that there was enough stone in them to build a wall around France, 3 m (3.3 yd) high and 30 cm (11.8 in) thick. Was he correct?
